Each piece is hand-knotted strand by strand using seven-color silk thread, centered with a genuine lacquer bead finished in traditional Chinese lacquerware technique. Craft + Culture (The Story Behind It)

The Lacquer Bead

The centerpiece bead is crafted using natural lacquer — a resin harvested from lacquer trees, layered and polished over weeks to achieve its deep, glass-like finish. The marbled patterns inside each bead are unique; no two are identical. This technique, known as Daqi (大漆), is recognized as part of China's intangible cultural heritage.

The Weave

The bracelet body is built with traditional interlacing knot techniques — related to Chinese macrame — where each diamond pattern is formed by hand without a loom or mold. One bracelet takes several hours of concentrated handwork. The small crystal accents (white and red zircon) are threaded in as the knots are tied, so they sit flush and secure.

The Dunhuang Palette

The colorways take their cue from the murals of Dunhuang's Mogao Caves — a UNESCO World Heritage site where artisans a thousand years ago painted with mineral pigments in exactly these tones: cinnabar red, lapis blue, malachite green, and gold. Wearing this bracelet is a small way to carry that palette into the present.
